Success Stories : I quit my job – Jerry Donker

Our best sellers know it very well: “failure is a success in progress”. In order to achieve your selling goals, you need to fully understand your mistakes and implement a better strategy. Nobody becomes an online marketing authority overnight! Today we exchanged with Jerry, one of our best dutch sellers. He will explain you how this business needs motivation and perseverance: learn from the best!

Hi Jerry ! Where are you from? Where do you live?
I live in the Netherlands near Rotterdam – together with my girlfriend

What were you doing before your Teezily career?
I’m running two internet businesses from a co-working space where everyone can do what he love. I’ve launched an activity specialised in online marketing and business development, as well as an an in-house SaaS product.

Tell us how you started your business in Teezily?
I started in 2016 by creating a Father’s day campaign and promoting it with Facebook ads, as I was already using FB marketing tools with our e-commerce clients.
The sales were exploding, and I soon realized that we were spending more on Facebook ads than the average 1000k+ e-commerce stores.

Can you tell us something about your first campaign?
While launching our very first campaign, we were pretty busy and focused on our core business with our clients. So the strategy was just scaling up the current target audience as long as it was profitable.

How many campaign have you launched since you started?
A lot, and some of them had been a complete failure, it’s not that easy as it seems. Since you need to promote the campaigns through FB advertising or other online marketing tools, you need to make them profitable to obtain a return on investment. After our first campaign we relaunched 10 others campaigns without any success. Motivation is the key!

Which phase did not go as smoothly in the beginning of your Teezily career?
As mentioned above: You need to test, test and test before getting a winning design. After launching 10 designs who were not profitable, we decided to stop for a while and think about a better sale strategy.

How do you balance work and family?
Our entire business model is built on the fact that we don’t trade hours for money. That’s the reason why I start early every day and I never work more than 12 hours a day.

How do you organize your work everyday?
I use Trello. It’s the perfect tool for our team in order to organise tasks and priorities.

How do you keep your ideas fresh for your market?
I try to understand the specific market’s needs and focus on them. I create the products and designs they would love to buy.

What are your tips for running a successful business?
I do believe that running an internet business requires a perfect blend of technical and marketing skills. You need to make your business model revolutionary, and trust your ideas.

What is going to be your next move?
At the moment we are just targeting dutch buyers. We want to expand and sell our designs all over Europe.
